Re: Chances the Raiders go 0-16

One indication of how bad the Raiders have been over the last decade, and especially in the last 3-4 years: 12/11/11: Trailed GB 31-0 at Lambeau. losing 46-16 12/29/13: Trailed Denver 31-0 at home, losing 34-14 Way back on 9/17/61, they trailed the Chargers 30-0 before losing 44-0. That was one wee...

Re: 1950's Detroit Lions

Here is something to think about. How many NFL Championships would the Detroit Lions have won during the 1950's if the Cleveland Browns were not around and vice verse? I think that both teams likely would have won more. A good chance that Detroit gets the 1954 title without Cleveland. That would ha...

Re: What do you make of Joe Kuharich?

Kuharich was famous for his malapropisms. There was "This is a fine kennel of fish," or "That is a horse of a different fire department." The one that I like is after losing to the Giants, 7 to 6, Joe said "The game was closer than the score indicated." Another thing, K...

Re: 1950's Detroit Lions

I have mentioned before that the 1952 Cleveland Browns were the weakest of the Graham era, but did not go into detail as to why. So, here is some of what happened to the Cleveland Browns in 1952, IMHO. Cleveland lost a championship game to the Rams in 1951, so for the first time since their beginnin...

Re: They beat the best ... and lost to the worst

Regarding the 1964 Cards and Giants, the Giants not only beat the Cardinals but also played them to a 10 and 10 tie. Cleveland won the Eastern Conference with a 10-3-1 record. The Cards finished 2nd with a 9-3-2 record. Those games with the Giants cost the Cardinals the Eastern Conference title.

Re: 1950's Detroit Lions

The 1952 Browns were the weakest of Graham's teams, but the 1953 Browns were arguably the best. I didn't realize before that they were less than 30 minutes from having an undefeated season. They scored first in the 3rd quarter of week 14 to get a 20-14 lead. Philly scored 28 straight points. (Can y...

Re: 1950's Detroit Lions

I don't think it's a stretch to say the Lions owned the Browns during the Graham years, and beyond, despite the blowout loss. I also have no problem saying the 90's Cowboys owned the Packers, despite a 45-17 loss in 1997. In both cases, the win was an aberration in the larger picture. Not that Clev...

Re: 1950's Detroit Lions

Speaking of jinxes and teams owning other teams, Cleveland seemed to own the Bears during the early 1950's, beating Chicago 42 to 21 in 1951 and 39 to 10 in 1954. The Browns also beat the 49ers in 1950, 1953, and 1955, but lost to them in the opener in 1951. Cleveland beat the Rams in 1950 (title ga...
