Re: 1994 Steelers vs. 1997 Steelers
The 94 Steelers were better. The 1997 team shouldn't have even made the playoffs. They had a few games they should have lost, like Washington, @Baltimore, @Arizona, and @NE. Den and KC were the two best teams in the AFC that year, and that was the defacto AFC Title Game. Oh please. 97 KC was a frau...

Teams that played up and down to the competition
In light of the discussion 74_75_78_79 started on the 84 Men of Steel, one thing that jumped out was their resume of good wins (SF, both LA teams) and baffling losses (HOU, IND) In other words, playing up and down to the competition- get up for the contenders, but not take the lesser likes seriously...

Re: '84 Broncos discussion
Say what you want about Pittsburgh’s QB situation post-Bradshaw, but the reality is that 84 squad would have been a 10-win team if not for the single flukiest play of the 84 season against Indianapolis and that moment of serendipity

Re: '84 Broncos discussion
I was very surprised the Steelers beat the Broncos in that playoff game. It should have been the battle of second-year QBs in Miami and maybe Denver overlooked them but the Steelers gave Elway problems his rookie season as well. A late interception from Elway hurt them but the Steelers also ran the...

Re: '84 Broncos discussion
;) I kind of feel re the 1980's Denver Broncos that Dan Reeves went 85-50-1 during the 1980's in his first head coaching job and should be in the Hall of Fame, but as Bill Parcells said in his book with Jerry Izenberg "The Broncos (of that era) just cannot handle power". But as you say 13-...

Re: Worst draft classes for a team
1967 Falcons, coming off an expansion year, had NO ONE from their draft make the team. Shortly before the draft the Falcons traded their #1 pick (number 3 overall) to the 49ers for three players. The best of these players was WR Bernie Casey. I am guessing that Casey made it clear he wouldn't repor...

Re: Michael Strahan- Did he only make the HOF because of his storybook ending?
IMHO, He was the Joe Namath of defensive players- only made the HOF because he played in NY, had one gaudy outlier of a season (Namath's 4000 yard season, Strahan's sack record) and had an all time SB upset. If they lose to DAL/GB or even that SB and he retires without a ring.... are we sure he's i...

Re: 1985 vs 1989 Redskins
By most categories 89 was better. But the 85 team didn’t lose to a team as bad as 1-15 DAL.
Also what gets forgotten is that the 89 Skins wouldn’t have gotten a hypothetical 6 seed (Cardiac Pack would have had conference record tiebreaker)

Re: Notable Landry-vs-Shula games
1984
In an era when the Monday Night Football schedule was basically cross your fingers and flex scheduling did not exist, that Dallas/Miami game (MIA playing for 1 seed, DAL fighting for their playoff lives) was as significant a Monday Night finale as the NFL had ever seen to that point

Re: 1984 49ers = Overrated
I think that's kind of ridiculous, but I think you did mention a really overrated team: the 1985 Bears. They went 15-1 (winning a weak division in a walk) and routed an 11-5 AFC team quarterbacked by Tony Eason and coached by Raymond Berry; the 49ers went 15-1 and trounced a 14-2 team with Dan Mari...
