Re: SB Champions That Should Have Repeated
I would have mentioned the 2008 New York Giants. But great list and descriptions just the same! I've said it a few times here before and even recently that, despite me being a Steeler-fan, the defending-Champs who beat the undefeated Pats last year were the best team in the league the 2008 regular s...

The first season ‘preview’
Without asking anyone to actually roll up their sleeves and research/dive into the matter, would anyone in here know off-hand what was the first NFL season in which a publication, or maybe even a radio show, was produced that reviewed the upcoming season; rosters, coaches, predictions and what not? ...

1971 NFL season discussion
Other than this, here, old PRs thread from 2017 - https://profootballresearchers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=20933&hilit=power+rankings#p20933 - I'm pretty sure that there hasn't already been a discussion thread on this season. Plenty to say about this intriguing second season of the AFL/NFL merge...

Weakest above-500 team to NOT make the playoffs?
There's the question of who the weakest ever playoff teams were. But considering that a handful of them at least won at least one of their playoff games, there then is the question as to who the weakest playoff teams who went one-and-done; it's a thread I started not too long ago. And then there's t...

Re: Good interconf games missed due to '5th place schedule'
Some considerations: 1979: Tampa Bay vs. Miami 1981: Jets vs. Dallas 1986: Chiefs vs. Giants 1991: Denver vs. Atlanta 1992: San Diego vs. Dallas The '79 Bucs were 3-1 vs their four games against the other 5th-place teams from the year before. They played the Giants (6-10) twice, at Colts (5-11), an...

Re: Hypothetical post merger Playoff Bowls
Nice list! And time put into it! The problem with the 'Playoff Bowl' was you could never be sure if the winner won it because they were actually better or because the losing team simply wasn't motivated enough. We all know how Vince felt about the event. Playing for a bronze medal in the Olympics or...

Teams that benefited from the 2002 realignment
I've opined this a few times already my always wishing that each conference would have stayed at three divisions apiece (whilst, of course, having never added an extra playoff team per conference in 2020). And keep the Colts, Hawks, Cards, and Bucs with their division foes regardless of geography wi...

Re: Packers Saints rivalry
1983 - no, both teams didn't play against each other, but both were still in the playoff race going into Week #16. The 8-7 Saints, who already had a better conference record over GB at 7-4 to 6-5, needed to beat the also 8-7 Rams at home to clinch the final WC spot thus a date at Dallas the followin...

The best Buck Shaw HC'd squad?
The first of the obvious candidates I'll mention is his actual NFL World Championship with Philly in 1960. But being that GB was still a year away - already a pretty good team, but they got to the LCG basically by default - Buck's '48 & '49 SF teams may actually be stronger considering the obvio...

Re: 1936 NFL season
Great responses as always! I guess you can say that the '36 Redskins are like the '68 Vikings. Mediocre but get eliminated by a juggernaut (Colts in Minny's case) by not as bad a margin as you'd think. And then the following year they're championship-caliber, Washington winning-it-all in their case....
