Re: '68 Packers expectations

The clear end point to expectations came on opening day 1970 when the Lions whipped the Packers 40-0 at home, and the Lambeau faithful booed the fallen heroes. Yeah, and for it happen after Lombardi's passing. Sort of like the Steelers in '88. The Chief passes on before the season begins and then t...

Re: '69 Lombardi vs Noll, Shula, Landry

In 1978 Walt Michaels squared off against Noll, Shula, and Landry and went 2-2. Beating Shula twice but losing to Noll and Landry Nice work! Not sure if this response is better suited for this thread or the 'best chance Jets winning Bowl in '80s' thread but what an irony in that Jets had a 7-0-1 re...

Re: '68 Packers expectations

End of day, I would have to guess that their expectations going into '68 were no different than the Steelers in 1980. Going by my '80 Street & Smith's souvenir, it seemed to be greatly assumed that there was no letdown/complacency in the air, or even on the horizon, up in Latrobe.

Re: '69 Lombardi vs Noll, Shula, Landry

Jerry Williams, anybody? Not only did he coach against that very Holy Trinity of '70s HCs (and also in '69, mind you), but also add (bonus) his Eagles squaring off in that very season against... Lombardi (twice, as the case of course vs Landry)!

Is Dickerson trade REALLY to blame for Rams' downfall?

In regards to the comment of "the Rams were never the same again" (after the trade) on Eric Dickerson 'A Football Life', would it really have made that much of a difference? I mean, the Rams did have consecutive playoff runs in '88 & '89 making it to the NFCC (arguably the league's &qu...

'69 Lombardi vs Noll, Shula, Landry

Yes, in his final year as a HC (lone season in DC), Vince Lombardi coached against Chuck Noll in a 14-7 road victory, then against Shula the following week in a 17-41 blowout loss at Baltimore and the later on in the season, of course, against Tom Landry twice; losing both games to his Cowboys with ...

'68 Packers expectations

What was the general, overall consensus amongst the experts/fans/magazines on how the Pack would do in the year after Vince stepped down (up - GM) from the HC spot? Did most feel that it was indeed, it, for the Dynasty due to his departure from HC, or did some feel that Bengston could pull a McCaffe...

NYJ@SD '83, Hou@Rams '81, and other examples

Opening day matchups between two teams who both were playoff teams the year before only for both to end up finishing below-500. That '80s Jets thread made me think of their opening day win at the Jack in '83. People must have thought that as an AFCC-preview at the time. Oilers/Rams almost going into...

Historic high-scoring TIE, OT games

In regards to today's Panthers 37 Bengals 37 stalemate, what other examples of high-scoring tie, overtime games can you give? Being a Steelers fan, it's obvious that I start with 35-apiece at Denver Week #2 of '74 and 34-34 vs Vick's Falcons Week #9 of '02.

Re: Welcome! New PFRA Website & Forum

Watching college football right now with the laptop on. Thought I set things up. Looks good so far! Change happens and the new set-up's got my support! If any constructive criticism ideas come my way, I'll make whatever recommendation(s) but in the meantime, it's great to be on the new site and will...
