Re: Best Year of the 1970s

We had a "favorite season" thread back in 2011 that was not limited to the 1970s, but since my favorite season happened to be in that era, I'll re-post my comments here: For me, it was 1976, and here are some of the storylines that made it memorable for me: The Build-Up • The spirited, fe...

Re: Best Year of the 1970s

Upon a little further research on the '78 Hawks, a nice little gem came up that I forgot all about (knew of before; surprised no one has mentioned yet in regards to that very NFL season) - Tarkenton VS Zorn at the Kingdome! Almost a 'passing-of-baton', of sorts, considering their scrambling styles a...

'Mt Rushmore' All-Time QBs

Not that any of us place real stock in NFL Network though many of us watch it anyway, but just recently (in yet another example of the network being way too new-school-friendly) some of the commentators took turns naming their 'Rushmore' (top 4) all-time NFL QBs including some rather 'interesting' c...

Re: Harold Carmichael's Trophy

Hey Guys: A tougher question ahead: Eagles wide receiver Harold Carmichael set an NFL record in 1979 when he caught at least one pass in 106 consecutive games. The game in which he broke Danny Abramowicz' record was against Cleveland at Veterans Stadium. At halftime of that game, Carmichael was awa...

Re: Best Year of the 1970s

1978, 1978, &... 1978. No explanation necessary. I also have to go with 1978, with 1970 a close second. 1978 was a clear turning point in NFL history, as the league went to a 16-game schedule, along with adding two teams to the playoffs. There were two fluky games (Holy Roller and Miracle at th...

Re: The Draft Combine Is Dumb

When the combine first stared in the late-'80s, wasn't it Buddy Ryan and Jerry Glanville who were the only HCs who wouldn't attend (or at least in the very beginning they didn't) until everyone, pretty much, were expected to attend; HCs, GMs, execs alike. Anyone else who used to forego it?

"Kotie Has Buddy Beat By a Mile..."

Interesting article which came out the week leading up to Kotite's Eagles visiting Buddy in the dessert in '94. Philly was just coming off a home loss to Cleveland, dropping them to 7-3; and we all know what would happen from there. In addition to actually thinking that the Cards would win that home...

Re: Tony Dungy VS Jimmy Johnson HOF

-I was surprised when they got Jay Novacek from the Cardinals in 1990, as he barely started in his first five seasons. But I saw playing at Wyoming, and was special. -Other player I was shocked when he was let go was RB Paul Palmer, and after he was the star of the Cowboys lone win in 1989 at Washi...

Hartford Blues again??

Not counting that very pre-Depression franchise mentioned in this thread's title, Whalers (NHL) obviously are the only major sports franchise ever in Hartford, CT as far as I know. COULD the city hold an NFL franchise today, you think, along with an MLB, NBA, and/or NHL? City limits itself no more p...
