Re: Clinchers winning finale vs must-win teams
In 1981, the Packers came into Week 16 with an 8-7 record, and a win over the Jets would have given them a wild card spot, but the Jets won 28-3 and the Giants got the final wild card spot in the NFC. I believe I was incorrect about this game - this game was essentially a play-in game, where the wi...

Clinchers winning finale vs must-win teams
As is the case with the Raiders beating Cincy in '76 or Raiders LOSING to Giants in '89, what other historic examples are there of a team ALREADY in the playoffs still beating a team in the season finale who HAD TO win to make the post-season? Better than that if you can name teams, like the '76 Rai...

Oh my, what a post. Chargers: Humphries to Martin, 43 yards in Pittsburgh. Dolphins: Marino's fake spike Cleveland: Red Right 88 Houston: JJ Watt's interception return for a TD in the playoffs. Jaguars: David Garrard's 4th down scramble vs Pittsburgh in the playoffs. Bears: Gale Sayers' first of si...

Re: A Signature Play in History for each team
1966 Miami Dolphins - 1st game in franchise history, Joe Auer runs opening kickoff for a Touchdown. Can't start any better than that... John Gilliam and the Saints matched it the following year, although Dempsey's kick still would have been the signature play prior to the pick six in SB 44. Saints?...

Re: A Signature Play in History for each team
As for some of these very old franchises, you may have to divide the franchise's history up into different eras and place a signature play for each era that warrants one. Bears, Giants, Washington may be teams to do this with; and I'll leave that to you guys. Eagles I think I can do. Before the SB e...

Re: Ryan 'back' in Buffalo
It could be him. Don't know about you all, but I never seen him w/out his glasses in the '80s & '90s and only ever (before finding these two pics) seen those brief shots of him on the sideline SBIII that have always been shown on ESPN & NFLN. If you think that's Buddy Ryan, then I just foun...

Re: Best post-'77 defensive games
The Steelers 13-3 win over the Oilers at Houston in 1978 was a pretty intense defensive struggle. Lots of ambulance action. Not too familiar with that one other than the final score and the fact that after the previous matchup vs Houston (losing at home MNF), Steelers would only allow a single TD t...

Re: Best post-'77 defensive games
I seem to recall a 1980 game between the Raiders and the Eagles -- in Philadelphia, I think -- that wound up 10-7, with the Eagles winning. Those were two very good teams, good enough to meet again in the Super Bowl, and unlike some of the others mentioned, I think the low score there was actually ...
