Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread
SF would have been the 1-seed, with Dallas the 2. The second WC game is Bears@Packers, with the Pack still winning. However, the Pack go to Dallas, and the 49ers play the Eagles. I think the Cowboys and 49ers win, and the 49ers beat them at home before losing to the Steelers in SB 30. Yeah, you've ...

Re: Another story that has been semi-debunked
Dan Daly and Bob O'Donnell their 1990 book "The Pro Football Chronicle." what a good book, for that and a bunch of other reasons. I guess the debunking of these things has less momentum than the regular stories if they still appear on big accounts online. I noted, hopefully politely, that...

Re: Another story that has been semi-debunked
Dan Daly and Bob O'Donnell may have been the first to debunk the myth, in their 1990 book "The Pro Football Chronicle." According to PFC, the story first appeared in Jerry Kramer's book "Instant Replay." But Ringo denied having an agent, and said he never even met with Lombardi. ...

Re: Longtime NFL head coaches returning to NCAA
Nick Saban and Gene Stallings both spent time in the NFL as HCs and went back to NCAA. So did another Alabama head coach. Ray Perkins kept going back and forth, from the Giants to Alabama to Tampa Bay to Arkansas State. After posting a 1-10 record there, he returned to the NFL as a coordinator and ...

Re: Longtime NFL head coaches returning to NCAA
Only three HOF coaches went back to the college ranks after they had been NFL head coaches. 1. Bill Walsh in Stanford 2. George Allen spent the last year of his life coaching Long Beach State University. 3. Weeb Ewbank served as the quarterbacks coach at Columbia in 1975. Technically, you could also...

Re: Will Now Be The Time For Jim Tyrer?
I'm aware that the Hall of Fame and the NFL are two separate entities. I just can't imagine that the league is keen to celebrate the career of Tyrer and shine a light on his story, and if they did have a strong preference on the matter I think it'd be naive to think that wouldn't influence the Hall...

Re: Will Now Be The Time For Jim Tyrer?
Whats your take on Ray Lewis, SixtiesFan? Do you feel he should have been elected to the HOF? I felt--and still feel--he was an accomplice to murder but got full legal representation and private investigators from the Ravens. His buddies got away with it in self defense but do we really know what h...

Re: 2024 Season Notes wks 11-13
Interesting stat line with Josh Allen throwing a TD pass AND catching a TD pass, despite no reception ... Only happened four other times with Mariota the last to do it. Not quite. Mariota and Brad Johnson both caught their own deflected passes, and scored. They get credit for the pass reception, th...

Re: NFL MVP's who didn't deserve to win
Rice did feast on bad teams. He also feasted on the Bears for three touchdowns, all from Steve Young. He also feasted on the Browns for three touchdowns. After looking at the highlights, Rice had three TD's, but one of them was a short TD under five yards (on a play that looked like a sprint out ri...

Re: NFL MVP's who didn't deserve to win
I dont know how Riggins had a bad season when he led the team all the way to the SB championship while being the MVP of the game? Yes, Moseley had a great year and Riggins took a while to get going but once the playoffs began -- Redskins 31 Lions 7 -- Riggins 119 yrds rushing Redskins 21 Vikings 7 ...
