Thoughts on Brett Favre

On the eve of his induction into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and the ceremony to retire his number, a few random thoughts about #4. Feel free to add your own. * I would call him the most important player in Packers history and maybe the third-most important figure of any kind in the team’s hi...

Re: 1970 postgame 'incident' w/Shula & Ewbank

Leading 13-10, Shula had Garo Yepremian kick a chip-shot field goal with 41 seconds left instead of running out the clock. Maybe that was the problem.

Re: Football games that were closed to the public

I don't have links handy, but there have been numerous examples of high school games being played before empty stands to discourage gang conflicts.

Re: 1972 Packers in the Playoffs

George Allen wrote the book on stopping that Packers team by employing a five-man defensive front, hence John Brockington's 9 yards in 13 carries. It's hard to imagine Tom Landry not swallowing his antipathy toward George Allen and adopting a similar strategy to neutralize Green Bay's lone offensive...

Re: Your nominations for best football card ever

I don't know about card, but the 1967 Philadelphia set is the most visually appealing I've ever seen. The photography, the layout, the typography, the use of color, the logo cards -- it all works. http://www.footballcardgallery.com/1967_Philadelphia/23/John_Unitas/ http://www.footballcardgallery.com...

Re: Your nominations for worst football card ever

John Hadl 1975 card with the Packers is awful. I always like the "Patriots" no. 5 (maybe an official or chain guy, but not a player). http://www.footballcardgallery.com/1975_Topps/443/John_Hadl.jpg Especially since Hadl never faced the Patriots during his season-and-a-half with the Packer...

Scratch this one. I incorrectly matched the attempt against the Packers schedule. Ken Pullis is correct, the 57-yard attempt was made by the Colts on 11-5-67.

Re: The 1979 Los Angeles Rams

As we can see here http://losangelesrams.org/about/statist ... dance.html, the Rams' home attendance dwindled every year following Chuck Knox's first season, hitting a 13-year low in 1979. Maybe that's what they were referring to.
