Re: Pre-1966 NFL Championship Game MVPs

Sammy Baugh in 1937, for sure, and probably 1942 also.

Sid Luckman is a good bet for 1943 and '46 -- maybe '41 too.

Probably Bob Waterfield in 1945?

Ken Strong in 1934, or maybe Ed Danowski.

Otto Graham in 1950, and probably '54 or '55, if not both.

Re: Obscure RB trivia

Anyway, when Earnest Byner went 66 yards to put the Browns up 21-3 in the 3rd quarter, one of the announcers mentioned Dan Fike, an OL who made a block on the play, was playing his 39th game in the last 12 months. Do you think that's correct? I wonder how many players played say 30+ (not sure what ...

In 1968 John David Crowe was switched to tight end and was the 49ers starter all year.
Oh yeah, I think I just about remember that now that you mention it.

Re: Obscure RB trivia

Not Kelly. 1968 was only his third year as a starter. And I did think of Daniels, who I believe had crossed 5,000 yards by 1968, but he wasn't in the NFL, so I assume he doesn't qualify either.

Re: Obscure RB trivia

For the first question, Don Perkins is one, and I think Dick Bass is another -- although he crossed 5,000 yards during the season, so maybe you don't want to count him. Those were the first two guys I thought of. After that I looked at another half-dozen or more, but none of them qualified. John Dav...

Re: Negro League stats

MLB is now incorporating Negro League stats into its record book. This is also the league that has Barry Bonds not in its HOF but Harold Baines is in. I am going to voice the politically-incorrect opinion that I find this to be absolute lunacy. There were seven different overlapping "Negro Lea...

Re: 1991-92 World League

Hey Bob! I do have the official stats out of the 1992 and 1995 Record and Fact Books. What I am attempting to do is figure out the stuff from 1992 that wasn't included in the 1995 book. OK, looking at what I have now, the information on both seasons comes from consecutive pages. I guess that means ...

Re: 1991-92 World League

I continue to work on compiling information on the 1991-92 World League of American Football. If anyone has game films, press releases and/or game books from those seasons, please reach out! I am attempting to correct the record on certain things, mostly incorrect stats, in-season transactions and ...

Re: Something dumb that you remember about watching the NFL

The issue for me isn't that. It's that I'd seen a lot of football and never hed seen it called before ... maybe you did, but it was something that was a surprise. It meant they were wrong for years and years and that was when they started enforcing it. Right! That's my objection exactly. That was t...

Re: Something dumb that you remember about watching the NFL

The Tuck Rule game ... damn the ruling and interpretation of the "incomplete pass" ... Brady clearly brought the ball down from a passing motion making him a RUNNER who fumbled the ball into the Raiders hands. No way that was an intended pass. Still on the short list of the worst calls I'...
