Ha! You're right -- and he wasn't named by the Sporting News or Pro Football Weekly either. So the guy I have in mind was not the only one. Very interesting.

Quiz question: Rushing leaders and all-pro selections

This is something I just thought of today. What NFL rushing leader failed to show up on a single all-pro first or second team for the season when he topped the league?

Admittedly, I haven't checked every single season, so it's possible that more than player qualifies here, but I doubt it.

Re: Players who have been top five in career rushing yards at any point since 1932

Interesting. Where did you find these unofficial rushing leaders? And does that source have accounts for passing and receiving? Not sure if this was the source of the previous post, but there's a Coffin Corner article on this site that covers the rushing, receiving and passing leaders for 1920-31, ...

Re: Cliff Battles: Neft/Cohen v. PFR

Doing some 'research' on old RBs, and noticed a discrepancy with Cliff Battles rushing totals. In my Neft/Cohen encyclopedia, it lists Battles with 511 yards in 1934 and 310 yards in 1935. Pro Football Refence shows Battles with 480 yards in 1934 and 230 in 1935. Which is correct? And why is there ...

Re: Players who have been top five in career rushing yards at any point since 1932

However, I should note that if individual rushing yardage totals were available before 1932 that Red Grange would also likely have been top five career rise at one point as he started in 1925 and his first five seasons don’t have rushing yard totals. Sure, Grange might have cracked the list. Even b...

Re: Players who have been top five in career rushing yards at any point since 1932

Yet another interesting list. Thanks for posting! I had never heard of Campiglio until now. He was a teammate of Doug Wycoff so two Stapletons were in the 1932 top 5. Hoerschenmeyer was a surprise. I wouldn't have thought he was ever career top 5. Campiglio, in fact, was listed as the 1932 rushing ...

Re: The most 'boring' Super Bowl ever, IYO?

Bud Grant's teams, in their four Super Bowl defeats, never scored a point in the first half. Interesting. I never noticed that. Don Shula had sort of the opposite problem: In his five championship game losses (four Super Bowls and the 1964 game against the Browns), his teams were shut out in the SE...

Re: The most 'boring' Super Bowl ever, IYO?

For me, XX Patriots-Bears and XXIV Broncos-49ers (inspite of the scoring and the players) were boring blowouts. I remember in both games stop watching. On a side note, I consider that the NFL Films highlights of Super Bowl XX were the worst produced of any of the first 25 Super Bowls by far. Very d...

Re: The most 'boring' Super Bowl ever, IYO?

Broncos-Seahawks for me. Literally from the first snap, it was clear that one team came to play and one absolutely did not. Dumb mistakes throughout, not a single minute of drama or suspense...an unfortunate throwback to when lopsided Super Bowls were the rule, rather than the exception they've bee...
