Re: Double-thread: Favre vs Rodgers; Cowher vs Tomlin

I live in Pittsburgh and I'm a Packers fan, so I consider myself qualified on both topics :P No one was tougher than Brett Favre, and few were as fun to watch. You never knew what was about to happen with him, whether he'd make one of the plays of the year or throw a pick-six. As for Aaron Rodgers, ...

Re: Who's the best 9-7 team that DIDN'T make the playoffs?

Maybe they weren’t great teams statistically, but the 2000 Steelers and Packers both finished their seasons on fire, Pittsburgh winning 4 of 5 and Green Bay winning 4 straight. Both teams needed help to get in, and neither got enough. I like to think that the Packers wouldn’t have muffed a punt at t...

Re: Random Trivia II

The only thing I can come up with is that the first team they played for in the NFL was the New York Jets.

Re: How would you rank odd / unusual seasons?

1999 had two 8-8 teams make the playoffs. There hadn't been an 8-8 team in the playoffs since 1985. Only this time, the 8-8 teams were wild cards, not a weak division winner (Cleveland in 1985). In 1990, the Saints made the playoffs at 8-8, and the Jets did in 1991 as well. You're right, I should h...

Re: Last great NFL season

There are some ways the NFL is better than ever, such as more games being available to watch, better quarterback play, and higher scores (if that's what you like). As for me, though, I feel like 2007 was the last really great season. In 2007 you had the 16-0 Patriots and their rivalry with the Colts...

Re: What will the Redskins new name be?

I've been advocating for a long time now for their name to be the "Hogs." It would pay homage to their storied history, and it's just a great nickname.

Re: How would you rank odd / unusual seasons?

’99, ’00, & ’01 can each be considered “unusual” in that there were now 31 teams in the league with the re-addition of Cleveland. Every single week someone had a bye. Six teams in the AFC Central which, looking back, I actually didn’t mind at all! Of course, in ’01, the games were delayed due t...

Re: Pro Football in the 1960s by Patrick Gallivan (6/16/2020

I was initially really interested in this book. Then I read its description on Amazon and came away with the feeling that this book is all about off-the-field matters. There's nothing wrong with that, but that's not where my interest lies. I'm a numbers and stats guy. If anyone has this book, please...
