Re: Future Hall of Very Good players

I feel Wilson will make the HOF due to his winning pct as a starter and his combination as a runner-passer. Winning for the Steelers will seal the deal but if he were to keep regressing, similar to Eli Manning, he may not get voted in. Is his heart for the game still there? A bad year could make any...

Re: NFL Defenses of 1977

In most respects, artificial turf helped create the 1970's dead ball era. With Allen in Washington, Carson in Pittsburgh, Arnsparger in Miami and other quality coaches bringing in sophisticated zone defenses and cover-two coverages, offenses had to move patiently to score points and the hard defensi...

Re: NFL Defenses of 1977

Though Griese led the league in TD passes, he had six of those in one game. Chuck Noll complained about the rules changes, saying it made mediocre receivers suddenly become good. I wonder which receivers he thought as "mediocre"?

Re: '84 Broncos discussion

Elway was hurt at the end of the 86/87 playoff game against the Patriots as well but his ankle was fine against the Browns the following week.

Re: '84 Broncos discussion

I was very surprised the Steelers beat the Broncos in that playoff game. It should have been the battle of second-year QBs in Miami and maybe Denver overlooked them but the Steelers gave Elway problems his rookie season as well. A late interception from Elway hurt them but the Steelers also ran the ...

Re: Worst draft classes for a team

In fairness to Robert's opinion, Dutton did seem to get in on a lot of tackles, at least unofficially, so he helped the linebackers but just wasn't the same pass rusher as his Marchibroda-coached days in Baltimore. Imagine if Dallas could have gotten Keena Turner, Lance Mehl or Matt Millen at lineba...

Re: '84 Broncos discussion

Fortunately for those two slow teams, Belichick could coach and had determined pass rushers in Taylor, Marshall and McGinest who helped make life easier for their offenses

Re: Worst draft classes for a team

Losing Reeves and Ditka from the coaching staff affected the team as well. Landry couldn't adjust to younger players like he once could. The Cowboys failed to coach up a touch thrower in Steve DeBerg as well. It's not like Brandt wasn't continuing to bring in talent while Schramm was trying to fleec...

Re: Lindy Infante offense - articles/description/etc.

You would think taking a team to an AFC Championship would keep the HC with the team but Marchibroda went to Baltimore instead. The Colts would draft Peyton Manning soon after. If only Marchibroda could have had more time for either team.
