very apt comparison and one that didn't come to mind right away. He's a football player who happens to be a QB but doesn't, and may never have a QB mentality...but has brilliant athletic gifts (arm, legs, size etc) that are poorly woven togetherBryan wrote:I wonder if Josh Allen is like the contemporary version of Joe Kapp. Kind of slogs/wills his team down the field, but not very accurate and somewhat erratic in his decision making. I thought the impromptu lateral to his TE late in the game was something Kapp would have done. That said, Allen is interesting to watch. I've seen him multiple times get stuffed on 4th and 1 QB sneaks, and on second-effort plow his way through the entire defense for the 1st down. He is definitely not a typical QB. I thought the broadcasters in the game went way overboard in their praise of Allen, but he still almost won the game for Buffalo.sheajets wrote:Have to say watching the Bills game my worst suspicions about Josh Allen were confirmed. Yes he has once in a lifetime arm talent and can run (for now) but as a quarterback he has poor instincts and naturally bad accuracy. Very hit and miss. He's got some Mark Sanchez in him that's for sure

Wow.
The Titans are giant-killers.
First they take out the defending champion Patriots and now the MVP and "the best team in the league."
Vrabel has done a great job in Tennessee.

Yeah, so much for my Ravens-run-the-table prediction. As a Steeler-fan, I can't complain for being wrong. Four-out-of-four playoff games now between Titans & Ravens in which the road-team prevailed. Didn't see Titans coming at all! Mediocre all year long, only quality-win vs KC, fell to 8-7 going into finale and only winning that finale because Texans took their starters out, yet now they're suddenly 'hot' these last two weeks. Did Ravens resting their starters in the finale when they already had a bye anyway hurt them tonight?JuggernautJ wrote:Wow.

From what I saw last night was that Lamar Jackson was just really struggling with the tighter coverages teams tend to play come playoff time because the refs are more prone to let teams play in the postseason.74_75_78_79_ wrote:Yeah, so much for my Ravens-run-the-table prediction. It will be interesting what happens to Lamar Jackson in the future. He's extremely difficult to contain but at the same time he doesn't seem to be a real crisp passer. He can get away with that in the regular season but not so much in the postseason.

Ravens seemed mentally unprepared to play from the opening kickoff. Either Harbaugh or Jackson's prep, or both, was lacking for some reason.
A really unusual and memorable game. Titan's 4 TD drives:
6 plays, 35 yards after a 30 yard INT return and 15 yard roughing penalty on the QB.
1 play, 45 yards. TD pass from a QB not doing much throwing after Ravens miss on 4th and 1.
6 plays, 81 yards. 66 yard run by Henry and a 3 yard TD pass as well. Again after the Ravens miss on 4th and 1.
6 plays, 20 yards. Fumble by Jackson set it up.
The Ravens really needed to take the FG down 14-6. 14-9 is not an ideal score, I get it, but the mental attitude of the Ravens was not great at any point, and that was a time to get things back to normal a bit, take your success and live on to fight.

Josh Allen to my eye is serviceable and a bit enigmatic. He has certainly been more than the team bargained for thus far, in that no one could have expected him to be a prolific a runner as he's been. In that way he has been more than advertised, if perhaps not qualifying as better than advertised. However, I feel as if there is some magic sustaining his run; his passing is among the bottom of the league's starters both statistically and on film, and I think that's about what was expected of him accuracy-wise. Now that he's started running so much, though, I'm not sure he'll never develop out of it, because he uses running as a crutch to make up for his poor accuracy. So he may not be more than they bargained for at all, just different. And if the running boom isn't sustainable, he's going to be less.
