Teenagers in the NFL

Post by Halas Hall »

I saw one son (Tremaine) of former Miami Dolphin / Seattle Seahawk Ferrell Edmunds is projected to be a high first round draft pick later this month. He was born in May of 1998, so barring injury will be only twenty years old when he plays this fall. Has anyone played in an NFL game as a teenager? Maybe Charlie Powell with the 49ers?

Just curious.

Thank you.

I don't think this is what you are looking for, but I think it technically qualifies - there was a controversy in 1925 discussed here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1925_Chic ... als_season. I'm not sure who wrote the entry - I'd prefer more neutral language over statements like "This would ensure an inferior opponent for Chicago." because I think the motivation was to get the game in with a team that already disbanded for the season.

Not counting the above case, I wonder who the youngest and oldest rookies were? (I don't think I'd count a player like Thorpe either who was an over 30 rookie in '20, but had been playing pro football prior to the formation of the league.)

Chris Weinke and Brandon Weeden were both 29 in their rookie seasons.

Andy Livingston (born 10/21/44) was 19-years old when he was a member of the Bears for the 1964 season, but he had recently turned 20 when he made his NFL debut on 12/5/64.

Cookie ("Chet") Gilchrist was 19 when he tried out for the Browns in 1954, though he didn't last long in training camp.

The world's oldest teenager?
