Pro Football Archives?

Post by LJP »

Anyone else having problems accessing the Pro Football Archives site (http://www.profootballarchives.com/)?

I just a DNS error and it has been like this for the past few weeks.

It's not being supported anymore, shame, was an excellent site but apparently the cost (financial, time, etc???) was too high. All sites have some errors, obviously, but I was always happy with the fact that this site was so Football focused and endeavoured to capture early uniform numbers, USFL and non NFL info, etc. A loss.

Was afraid that would be the case, which is a shame. The site had lots of great info, a lot of which could not be found elsewhere.

The archive.org Wayback Machine (https://web.archive.org/web/*/profootballarchives.com) has a number of snapshots of the site, with the most recent being September 13th. Not sure how complete they are, but it's something.

The info on uniform numbers was my favorite part of that site. Hopefully it comes back online at some point.

The uniform numbers and roster size/rules history, two things I looked up most. But the best part of the site was that it accepted corrections and/or new information. If I'm watching a game from 1948 and see a player started but then see he's listed with no starts online, could easily send that to Tod and he'd put it on site. Very different experience than with other football sites which based on my experience evidently hate historical accuracy and hate video proof (apparently easier to be wrong and look at a sheet of paper that's wrong than to watch football.)

Why does PER pretend like there were no uni numbers before 1950?

If anyone has NFL rosters with uniform numbers for any seasons we're missing, we'd be happy to add them. Just shoot us a line: https://www.statscrew.com/contactus

Good news: Just checked (after a note from Tod) and the site is back up and running.
