He was the father of Joe Don Looney, who died in 1988.

It is wrong that he was the first Polish-born NFL player. Without looking up, fellow kicker Chester Marcol began his NFL career three years earlier.

But Szaro has a record that is difficult to surpass in the near future: he is the all-time NFL scorer for a Harvard alumni, he has nearly three times more points that Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Ray Graves, who played with the Eagles from 1942-3, and 1946, died this morning at the age of 96. That 1943 team was the Steagles, the war-based combo of the Steelers and Eagles. Graves was best known for his 10 years coaching Florida, including the Steve Spurrier era:

He was drafted by the Bears, but never played for any NFL team during the regular season (or postseason). He was activated from the taxi squad in October 1971 as Bobby Douglass' backup after Jack Concannon and Kent Nix went down with injuries, but returned to the taxi squad after two games.

He was traded to the Rams for RB Jim Kirby in July 1972, but also never saw the field.
