Jackson Brumfield - 1954 Niners

Brumfield was a pass-rushing terror his rookie year with the 1954 Niners, then never played another down in the NFL. I've read that he spent 1955 & 1956 playing military football, then hurt himself playing baseball in 1957 and never played football again. What made him leave the NFL? Did he have a previous military commitment?

He spent two years in the Army (1955-56). He was in camp with 49ers in 1957 starting the final preseason game at LDE, but was the last cut 9/18/1957. According to the Oakland Tribune "..he couldn't regain the form he showed then."
In 1958 he was in camp with the Redskins.
