#89 1984 Cleveland Browns question

Post by Gary Najman »

Recently I watched the NFL Films Game of the Week contest of Cincinnati at Cleveland (the Bengals won with a Jim Breech FG in OT). As they showed that play I notice watching in the Browns’ bench a wide receiver with the #89 who had a double-bar facemask (for the récord, #83 Ricky Feacher also wore that facemask in 1984 and it appears also in the same play in the bench). In 1984 Preston Brown wore #89 for Cleveland, but he only played in weeks 2 and 3, and this game was in week 14. Did that receiver was Brown or someone else?

It was Glen Young, who also played in just two games that year.

Young was signed after the Browns released butter-fingered receiver Duriel Harris, who they had acquired from the Dolphins in the offseason. Harris didn't endear himself in Cleveland when he dismissed his string of drops by saying, "Dropped passes are part of the game."

Dwight Walker wore #89. Young wore #84.

Ugh, you're right. I thought he was wondering about #84.
