Best reg-season games between both SB-participants-to-be
I'm sorry if this was already a topic previously. Quite a few good ones come to mind. Have a feeling what the most popular one will be which, arguably, may be best-reg-season-game-ever period (hint - combined final score of 72). Of course NFL & AFL Championship 'pre'-matches may be included as well.
An underrated one to me would be the 1980 late-season defensive slugfest at the bitter Vet - Birds sacking Plunkett 8 times in their 10-7 win. Perhaps the most humdrum may be the Denver/Dallas '77 finale if only for its utter meaninglessness with both having already clinched top-seed. Staubach vs Weese who also was Broncos' leading rusher that game with 6 for 33!

Does the Steelers 37-36 win over Green Bay in 2009 count?

I had same-season in mind but a very worthy mention just the same. Yeah, count it!MatthewToy wrote:Does the Steelers 37-36 win over Green Bay in 2009 count?

The 2007 season finale matchup immediately came to mind. Patriots 38, Giants 35 Not saying this is the greatest game ever that fits this desciption, but I remember it being exciting. Patriots having nothing to play for but they certainly weren't taking their foot off the gas. They wanted that 16-0 season! At the time, I doubt anyone would think the Giants would get through the NFC playoffs and this would be a SB preview.
The 1992 "no punt" game between the Bills and 49ers was a Super Bowl preview that I wanted to happen, but didn't.

I agree that was the best, followed closely by 2007 Patriots Giants.Todd Pence wrote:1983 Redskins-Raiders
1990 Giants Bills was another good game and memorable as it was the game when both Simms and Kelly were injured; Simms was gone for the rest of the season and Kelly missed much of the AFC playoffs.

Giants-Broncos '86 was another good one.

The 1985 Dolphins-Bears game was something of a shocker.

How about Redskins/Broncos 1986 (a year before they met up in the SB)?
