Tom Brookshier RIP

Eagles' fans were saddened  in January 2010 with the death of a Philadelphia icon-Tom Brookshier.  I suggest reading his biography on the internet to get the story of his life.   I can only add my personal observations.   Mr. Brookshier  broke his leg in the 8th game of the 1961 season.    It was a ...

Re: Bob Berry

In 1968, The Pittsburgh Steelers went to Atlanta to play the Falcons. Both teams were 1-6. Behind the passing of Dick Shiner and Kent Nix, Pittsburgh led 34 to 0 with two minutes left in the third quarter. The real turning point was in the first quarter. After the Steelers scored on a Shiner to Jeff...

Re: Steelers in 1964; the second of 2 Great Victories

Buddy Parker simply did not have the players he had at Detroit. I don't know how good the Pittsburgh scouts were. Pittsburgh traded Jimmy Orr to Baltimore for Big Daddy Lipscomb. Lipscomb lasted only two years but Orr went on for greatness with Baltimore. Steelers traded away or released Earl Morral...

Re: Jets-VS-Giants history

I really believe that the NFL Division should be realigned so that the Giants-Jets and the Rams-Chargers would be play each other twice a year every year. These intercity rivals are good for the teams and really all of the NFL. The four teams would also save money

Eagles Win 38 to 31; the Offense Let Us Down

Yesterday’s game was real exciting with no lulls. I wish the game would have been easier. Many people are talking about our below par pass defense and with good reason. Sam Howell had a monster day but the Eagles offense let us down. Philadelphia lost the ball at the Washington five yard line in the...

New View piont over Eagles 2008 Loss to Cardinals

The Worst Disappointment in Watching the Eagles. Copied From Another Editorial 008: Cardinals 32, Eagles 25. The Cardinals were 9-7. They won all six games with the weak NFC West opponents; with other teams the Cardinals were 3-7. An 8-8 record would have won the Western Division. The Eagles were 1/...

Looking at the Pains of 2008 Again

008: Cardinals 32, Eagles 25. The Cardinals were 9-7. They won all six games with the weak NFC West opponents; with other teams the Cardinals were 3-7. An 8-8 record would have won the Western Division. The Eagles were 1/2 game better at 9-6-1. Ponder five of the Arizona Cardinals losses. @ New York...

Not Specialists in the NCAA

We old-timers remember Fred Cox and Sam Baker as placekickers and punters in the NFL. In college, they were both running backs who also handled all kicking chores. I never understood why their coaches never used them as running backs. Sam Baker from Oregon State played 18 years for Washington, Cleve...

Re: Eugene Lipscomb-1st Huge and Fast Lineman

I guess you could say he was the first lineman to gain publicity because of television and being an a cham[ionship team.

Last Weeks Eagles lost to Jets 20 to 14

To say last week's game was a big letdown would be putting it mildly. It reminded us of several points in just about any sport. They are not new but deeply critical in both short and long term planning. I use the word Eagles rather team just to avoid confusing myself. 1. Philadelphia cannot continua...
