Re: Bryant Young HoF

Well, whoever it was that was giving those testimonials, it clearly wasn't the experts who actually evaluated Young AT THE TIME HE WAS PLAYING and who only included him on their all-pro teams, first or second team, once or twice in his 14-year career. Unless it's a case of these folks believing that...

Re: Bryant Young HoF

One more baffling piece of this situation is that Michael Dean Perry was rated very highly by the experts while he was playing. The aforementioned Sporting News all-pro team, the one selected by a combination of NFL coaches, scouts, talent evaluators, personnel directors, etc., had Perry on their fi...

Re: Bryant Young HoF

Something that shoots down some of the arguments being made here about how experts – players, personnel directors, scouts, coaches, etc. – think Young is so great is that a closer look indicates that he did WORSE among the experts than writers in postseason honors. The Sporting News picked all-pro t...

Re: Congrats to the HOF Class of 2022

I get all the stuff about scouts and experts and to answer the question, yes, I saw Young play many times during his career. There’s no doubt he was a good player and often a very good one. But where were all these scouts and experts when he was playing? If he was so great, why weren’t they able to ...

Re: Congrats to the HOF Class of 2022

I'm not sure. I think they're supposed to go back to the format they had been using in a few years: one Senior nominee one year, two Senior nominees the year after that, then one the following year, then two, etc.

Re: Congrats to the HOF Class of 2022

Very well said, Hail Casares. I think Branch is a weak Hall of Famer whose election seems to have come about because the guy who ran the HOF up until recently was determined to get every single member of the all-1970s team in. In Mills's case, I think they justifiably gave some weight to his USFL ac...

Re: Bryant Young HoF

Matt, the guy that jumps out is Allen. I think he definitely belongs in the HOF and wouldn't be surprised if he gets in next week. Wilfork and Mathis I would say are about at the same level as Young. John, I agree completely that there's a major imbalance and that some excellent defensive linemen wh...

Re: Bryant Young HoF

I wish I could share your optimism, John. One big problem is that Perry is now in the Senior swamp and he goes behind Wistert, Dilweg, Barwegan, Gradishar, Jim Ray Smith and others. I'd say his chances of getting elected are now slim and none. He deserved better and I say again he's definitely more ...

Re: Bryant Young HoF

Definitely Richard Seymour and Michael Dean Perry. I don't support Neil Smith or Ray Childress for the HOF but I would rate both higher than Young. And though it's comparing apples and oranges because they're Seniors, I think Gene Brito, Jim Katcavage and Bill Stanfill rate higher than Young, though...

Re: Bryant Young HoF

I don't think Young belongs anywhere near the Hall of Fame. His candidacy is yet one more example of the Selection Committee being overly enamored of the all-decade teams, as Young was named second team on the 1990s squad. What makes it worse is that he didn't deserve it, Michael Dean Perry did. Jus...
