Re: '69 Lombardi vs Noll, Shula, Landry

In 1978 Walt Michaels squared off against Noll, Shula, and Landry and went 2-2. Beating Shula twice but losing to Noll and Landry Nice work! Not sure if this response is better suited for this thread or the 'best chance Jets winning Bowl in '80s' thread but what an irony in that Jets had a 7-0-1 re...

Reconciling the whole Browns/Ravens issue

I don't know if this still bugs anybody else, but for the life of me I never warmed up to linking the old Browns to the new Browns, and all of a sudden considering the Ravens an expansion team. The entire franchise, players, staff, trainers, office workers, scouts were uprooted to Baltimore. There i...

Kicking is just too easy

Nowadays it's almost a shock when any kicker misses from under 50. And I expect anything from 50-55 to go through 80% of the time. A lot of it has to do with improved field conditions, better stadium environments (no more Shea dirt or Soldier Field winds) and just kickers who are more fit and take m...

Re: The Jets of the 80's...best Super Bowl shot?

The one thing that the Jets lacked in 82 was the sure handed #2 to complement Walker (and he eventually arrived in Toon) but the 82 Jets were a downfield team. They needed more intermediate options. Lam Jones and Wesley Walker betrayed Todd quite a bit with the drops. Wesley Walker could not get off...

Re: The Jets of the 80's...best Super Bowl shot?

I also agree that 1982 was probably their best shot, that they would have beaten Washington in the Super Bowl. I developed a system for predicting the winners of postseason games based on information available before the fact, and it is 70 percent accurate in picking the correct team. In 1982, it p...
