Re: Freezer Bowl
2) That game was one of the very few where the same team kicked off to start both halves. Instead of electing to kick or receive the opening kickoff, Sam Wyche elected to have the wind with him to start the game. San Diego then elected to get the ball for the second half kickoff, with the same wind...

Re: JOE NAMATH vs LEN DAWSON
I remember around 1969 reading that Joe Namath referred to Len Dawson as an "NFL Style Quarterback." This supposedly meant throwing a lot of short passes to the backs and other receivers resulting in a high completion percentage. Namath threw downfield and claimed not to care about his per...

Re: Upcoming Book from PFRA member Joe Zagorski
I asked over two months ago if there was any news about the book on O.J. Simpson's 2003 yard season. It wasn't published, obviously. It wouldn't be surprising if there isn't a lot of demand for it.
Again, any news on when and whether it will be published?

Re: NFL's Most Influential Teams
1961 Packers: because they helped establish the modern tight end via Ron Kramer? Because it was the start of the Lombardi dynasty? The 1962 Packers were when "Lombardi's Packers" became a national team and the Lombardi legend emerged. Vince Lombardi was on the December 21, 1962 cover of T...

Re: NFL's Most Influential Teams
Wouldn't it would very much depend on how one defined "influential?" I don't know that the 1968 Jets brought anything to the table that was new or "influenced" strategy or tactics. But by virtue of winning the Super Bowl they changed football history forever. That list (only the...

Re: How will Belichick's final chapter be written?
Life is short but the NFL record for most wins is (probably) forever. BB is 27 wins away and for someone in a profession where finishing 2nd or 3rd is "never enough" I can't see him voluntarily walking away at this point. Naw, no record lasts forever. As a kid who used to buy the NFL reco...

Re: Rank all Detroit Lions playoff teams, #1 to #18
For this length of time, the blame has to go to the ownership group of the Ford family. They don't even get credit for the 1950s, since they didn't own the team then. At this point, even dismal franchises like the Bengals and Cardinals have clearly outperformed the Lions. 60 years of this?!? What's...
