Re: Intentional Grounding 'interpretations'

If there are such things as make-up calls, the Cousins one was to compensate Chicago for the earlier reversal of the fumble/backward pass recovery.

Re: Players who were what their team's nickname was

49ers punter Jim McCann was born in 1949, as I imagine a few of his teammates were. The actor Ed O'Neill worked in a steel mill before being signed as a free agent by the Steelers (he never played for them). If any players of native descent played for Washington, I haven't been able to find them. I ...

Re: A franchise's worst TWO-YEAR run after winning a Title?

The Giants, at 14-18 the two years after 1990, might belong in the discussion.

1972 Topps football high numbers

Does anyone have all these? You might know that this was the last Topps football set (for a while, anyway) that wasn't released all at once. The third series was sent out to just a handful of stores, with the cards available to everyone else via mail order. With winter sports coming up, as with most...

Re: Packers Saints rivalry

The most memorable game in what has been a pretty drab rivalry was probably in week 2/1989, when Green Bay overcame a 21-0 deficit to win, 35-34. Don Majkowski completed 18 straight passes at one point, and during the winning drive, Jeff Query converted on 4th-and-17 with a tiptoe catch at the sidel...

Re: 50s Tackling Rule

It's still disorienting to see old clips of ballcarriers being knocked to the ground, clearly down by contact, and then just getting up and continuing to run.

Re: The best, and the worst, NFL season thus far this century?

Well, 2020 has to be the worst. It was surreal, and not in a fun way, to watch game after game being played in empty stadiums. And another Super Bowl win for Tom Brady? Yawn. For best, I'd pick 2003. Some crazy finishes to division races (e.g., Minnesota's unbelievable choke), Carolina's unlikely pl...

You're right, 1969. He took a swing at Dale Hackbart.

Re: Ejections

Green Bay's Doug Evans was ejected from a game in Kansas City in 1996 for bumping an official. Buffalo's Steve Tasker was ejected from his last-ever game, in 1997. Same reason. More Packers ejections: Ray Nitschke, vs. New Orleans, 1968, for fighting. Forrest Gregg, at Minnesota, 1968, for fighting....
