Re: 1984 49ers = Overrated

Plus they had an incredible list of names on that coaching staff. Green Bay just flat out couldn't beat the Cowboys. Period. Especially at Dallas. Once free agency/age/injury hit the Cowboys, then the Packers took over for their back-to-back NFC titles. Those Packers weren't as good as the Cowboys ...

Re: Seniors

Anderson usually covered the tight end, back or receiver if the cornerback reacted to the flat, or short pass. Not many strong safeties have three seasons with eight interceptions but Anderson did, as well as make big hits. He was DROY in the AFL and like John said, DPOY. No doubt had he not been i...

Re: Seniors

I'm not quite old enough to remember either Anderson or Scott that well. But I do think it's important to bring up that Anderson played SS, Scott played FS. Anderson, he had 8 ints as a SS one year and Scott had 4. Usually that's flipped - FS has many more. Anderson had another year with 8 picks. Th...

Re: 1984 49ers = Overrated

Those Cowboy teams were pretty complete, IMO. Aikman was great - great leader, tough, very accurate, played his best in the biggest games, and extremely poised. Awesome offensive line, Emmitt who was excellent, Darryl Johnston who was an outstanding blocking back and Jay Novacek, who was as huge par...

Re: Negro League stats

As a fan, I appreciate having some access to what Josh Gibson, Stachel Paige, Buck O'Neil - what their statistics might have been and what their teams' overall stats were. It's difficult to gauge the accuracy of the records because the games weren't covered nearly as well by the media. It's not like...

Re: Super Bowl champions by the percent of the time they passed the football

This is awesome - thank you for posting it. And great observations, Bryan. And all of the 6 lowest teams have at least one WR in the HOF - and half of those teams have 2 WRs in. In the Raiders case, two WRs and a TE! Surprised that The Greatest Show on Turf isn't higher. Even more surprised by the S...

Re: "Equal"s

I wouldn't say necessarily "equal" but I would say Brown, Lombardi, and Noll are above everybody else - a higher tier of coach than anyone else. They are each their own, so I wouldn't call them equals but they are equals in terms of who they are historically, IMO. And I guess maybe that's...

Re: Something dumb that you remember about watching the NFL

The issue for me isn't that. It's that I'd seen a lot of football and never hed seen it called before ... maybe you did, but it was something that was a surprise. It meant they were wrong for years and years and that was when they started enforcing it. Right! That's my objection exactly. That was t...
